Lots of banter on "Street" right now so:
Why would gas be coming up/out from the front bowl vent when cranking-over the motor on rebuilt Quadrajet? Coil wire not attached for fire-up at this point.

Float level too high or needle-seat assembly stuck open (debris in needle/seat). Could also be a stuck or sunk float.
