Lightbulb Torque converters

How would a guy know when to replace this item in his GTO, having such a large torquey motor anyway; is there some symptoms to be aware of. Curiosity mostly here. Because if it might need replaacing in my car, I'd need to consider what options are out there for me.

Is it a "wear" item that eventually just does go bad, or could it be that an original will stay in there with the life of the car, no problem? Essentially, will it wear out with normal driving situations?

Thanks.
Mike.
