Default Looking for home remedy dash crack repair?

Just your typical dash cracks, wanted too see if anyone has tried something, and has some pics, before i experiment on a customers dash. The dash was brought in mint condition upon install and fitting, it split in the common area, paid alot for it too. Shipping from Canada and the time in transit. Give me your ideals, thanks.

There are vinyl repair kits usually available at home improvement stores, sometimes fabric supply and/or auto stores that consist of different colors of liquid "vinyl"(for lack of a better term)along with grain paper to simulate the grain of the vinyl. You must mix 2 or more colors to achieve the correct shade(unless your dash is black,of course)then apply the liquid, cover with the proper grain paper, and apply heat via an iron. With a little practice,I have been able to make repairs that are almost virtually undetectable.good luck.

Years ago i believe i purchased one of those kits from Eastwood, and it was cheesy i think i still have the little iron that look like a small round mirror. That was one of my options, but to find a better qualitiy of a kit. thanks for your input.

x2 with paint guy. I have a dash that needs repaired and that was what was recommended by the guy I got the dash from. He said it would hold up on the dash better than areas like a seat that is constantly flexing.
I was hoping someone else would respone with experience with this.

Are you committed to repainting (the whole pad) with a colored vinyl-spray?

You may be able to call a car dealership. While I worked at one, the service guy cut the dash with a razor blade doing a R&R on a windshield. They had a guy come fix it that did the interior repairs, and I couldnt even find it (and I saw the cut before it was fixed. This was a tan dash as well.

I have used my local Dr. Vinyl to fix a few small cracks in my dash and it was undetectable. This a global franchise. They were very reasonable in price too. You can search the site to find a local office.

http://www.drvinyl.com/

Another option is that SEM makes a flexible vinyl repair product.

Learning a LOT from this forum. Woulda never thought about this. I was planning to 'cap' my black dash. After I get the WHITE contact paper peeled off! Yikes. Oh, well, I knew it was gonna be a project.

How much was Dr. Vinyl to do a crack repair? I have a crack in my dash that is holding me up for finishing my interior since I cant decide what to do with it. I may try patching it myself unless Dr. Vinyl is fairly cheap. I plan on painting/Dye the dash along with the rest of the interior.

"mkling" Here's his number if your from this area, he charged me 180.00 for dash only. Trying to do the work yourself been there not worth the effort.

Depends on the size of the crack. He charge me around $100 to fix a few smaller cracks and flatten out the top edge (as good as he could) on mine that was rolled up. I have since found this stuff (see link) which I think is the same thing he uses. It fills and adheres and is sandable and you can texture it. For the texture, I am playing with that now. I smeared a thick coat of bathroom silicone over an area of my dash (3" x 3" or so). When it dries I should be able to peel it off and have a perfect imprint of the texture of the dash which I can now use to texture the repair area.
