Default A Body 12 bolt in an F body

I've come across a 12-bolt posi rear out of a 71 Chevelle at an excellent price. What modifications are necessary to put it in my 67 Firebird? What's a ballpark figure for the cost involved? Thanks.

Weld on the correct leaf spring perches and take off the coil ones. The width should be different so you would need to change back space on your wheel. Also, NAPA conversion U-joint will be needed.

Not worth the time and effort to convert it.
If you have a serious street car and 11 seconds or slower in the quarter mile, get the corporate 8.5" from a 72-75 Nova and you should be set.....sell the Chevelle rear for a profit and use the proceeds to build a nice 8.5"

Contact Jim at www.jdrace.com and he can give you all the details.

Thanks for all the advice. I've decided to sell the 12-bolt and get a Ford 9" at some point in the future. I've already got a 9" in my Mudstain and it would be nice to be able to interchange parts. I'm running a corporate 8.5" 10-bolt posi in the Firebird, so it should hold up fine for now (even though I'm on my second one). Any suggestions as to what I should ask for the 12-bolt when I sell it? Thanks.

The sale price depends on gears, posi condition and overall exterior condition.....$700-1000.

Thanks for the reply George. This one is a posi, 2.73 gears, no brakes, and sorta rusty. I think I'll post it for sale here in a few days.

Width is the same as a stock 68 Firebird, just under 61"s. Had a 69 Chevelle copo unit in the back of my Bird a few years ago. Now running a 9" and moser axles from Quick performance. Should have kept the copo as it was more of a conversation piece.
