Default Rim width and Mickey Thompson 295/65r15

To those of you that are running the M/T 295/65r15 Drag Radials.
What rim width are you running and what is the actual section width?
Is any body using a 7 inch rim with these?

Thanks
Kg

I ran an 8" rim for many years. Pressure at 15.5 (good track) and 14.5 depending on track conditions.

I run an 8 inch rim.

I think my SW is around 11.5, I can measure later.

Not sure how those radials would respond but around 15+ yrs ago I tried a Hoosier 295/60 bias tire on a 15 x7 rim. Had to run tire pressure in the 10lb range. Tended to unsettle at top end if you rapidly got off the throttle and on the brakes. I switched back to a 285/60 McCreary on an 8" rim which was better traction and typically 13.5 lbs air press. far less squirelly on the top end and better more consistant 60's.

I havent tried race radials yet but have noticed quite a few who do run them seem to run a fairly wide rim.

Glad you started the topic we might learn something.

I wouldnt run a 7" rim with that tire, you will not be able to make good use of the contact patch at any reasonable psi.

I would appreciate it if you would measure the actual section width because I have found
some conflicting specs between Summit Racing and the M/T website.

Thanks again

Thanks again. Measure the width at the pressure that you are running.

I'm betting a solid 12.0" section, the rim width can play a part in the results as well. JD

The Summit catalog shows the tread width, not the outside-to-outside section width, on the website it gives a little more info. I'd trust Ponjons measurement first and the M/T website as validation. JD
