Default Need block sonic checked - N. IL

Time for a resto - I have a 69' GP 428 HO (rare block) - of course the car has many miles.
Engine was bored .030" at 100K miles - 30K miles ago. Does anyone know where I can have the block sonic checked here in Northern IL?
I spun a bearing (I think) and the engine did lock up. My Dad (a veteran wrench) said it's REALLY BAD if I spun a bearing in the block...I wish he didn't say that!
Any guidance is appreciated.
I posted here - I will race the car, at least a few times.

If you spun a main bearing, sonic checking won't do any good, but if it's a rod, you'll, probably, just need a crank. Most machine shops do sonic checking, so look in the yellow pages and start calling.

Call Wayne Shicantek 414-801-9230. Mill Wisc.

He can sonic check your block.

He is the man for pontiacs in south east Wis. and northern Il.

check out this link.

Oh, I know that sonic checking won't do anything for a spun bearing.
How bad is a spun MAIN bearing? I guess I'll have to see once the engine is out and apart.

I asked about the sonic checking as the engine is already bored .030", is numbers matching and I really don't want to go .060" over on this engine. I guess .040" would be fine.
(I know - custom pistons = big $$$ but I'm in for the long haul!)
The engine has about 35K on the rebuild and 135K total.
(I have no idea how "sleeving" a bore works.)
Creech - thanks for responding.

Cutrone - we are brothers at cars, and I will call Wayne.
The rebuild has to be pretty restrictive as I am looking at running the the Pure Stock drags.

I have a good used set of .040 over TRW forged pistons if you should need them.

Default Thanks to all

This is just a follow up.
Probird - thanks for the offer on the .040 TRWs; we probably would have saved money but we bought new Keith Black .040 forged. I just didn't bother to follow up - sorry.

65nss4spdGTO - I'm sorry I didn't look you up because you are much closer.
I take 120 from my place to Marengo where the car is (via Woodstock.)
When the car is on the road I'll stop by.

cutrone - a big THANKS to you as Wayne S did a terrific build up on my original 428.
Yes - the block sonic checked well. Oh, boy were their broken parts! The rods for 1 and 2 broke, the crank bent, parts were jammed against the cam, but only one little nick at the bottom of one of the cylinders. The windage tray looked like something out of the 1st or 2nd battle of Falluja!
I dropped the parts off last Good Friday (April) and the engine was ready in October; I wanted to dyno the engine but that was finally done on 12/18. The engine is home - now the rest of the car needs work! With a very mild cam (dicated by my Pure Stock drag rules) and with much more tuning and break-in to go, 388 HP and 485 torque.
Again - Wayne did an excellent job; my dad is a former ASE tech and instructor.
He is really hard to please and was pleased with the work.
Thanks again!
