Nice looking car, but the description seems odd to me:
RARE 1961 PONTIAC CATALINA BUBBLE TOP....POSSIBLE ROYAL BOBCAT ....THE STORY...........WE PURCHASED THE CAR FROM R. MILLER AN OWNER AND BUILDER OF NUMEROUS STREET RODS AND CLASSIC CARS. MILLER HAD THE CAR FOR SEVERAL YEARS AND HAD PURCHASED IT IN INDIANA. HE BELIEVED THAT THE CAR MAY HAVE BEEN A ROYAL BOBCAT CAR..THE CAR WHEN HE PURCHASED IT HAD A SWISS CHEESE FRAME, TOW HOOKS ATTACHED, DRIVE SHAFT WAS STRAPPED FOR SAFETY AND ABOUT 5 INCHES OF RUBBER IN THE REAR WHEEL WELLS. THE VEHICLE WAS WHITE IN COLOR AND HAD RED STRIPES DOWN THE FRONT FENDERS AS THE ROYAL CARS HAD. THE VEHICLE STILL SPORTED THE ACE ROYAL BOBCAT STICKERS, NOT THE REPROS. HE SAYS THE CAR HAD BEEN CAMPAIGNED THROUGHOUT MICHIGAN, ILLINOIS, INDIANA, GEORGIA, NORTH AND SOUTH CAROLINA. HE HAD PLANNED TO RESTORE THE VEHICLE AND MAKE IT A NOSTALGIA DRAG CAR DUE TO ITS HISTORY. HE FITTED THE VEHICLE WITH A BEEFED UP 455 CU INCH MOTOR, NEW CAM AND DUAL 4'S ALONG WITH ALUMINIUM HEADS AND THE PONTIAC 3" EXHAUST MANIFOLDS. TOTALLY REBUILT T-10 TRANNY, ALUMINIUM DRIVE SHAFT AND A 411 POSI TRACTION REAREND. CAR HAS LESS THAN 1000 MILES ON REBUILD. WE FINISHED THE RESTORATION AFTER PURCHASE.......WE TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE ORIGINAL BRISTOL BLUE EXTERIOR, AND COMPLETED THE INTERIOR WITH THE ORIGINAL CATALINA INTERIOR. Original Bobcat car? Swiss cheese frame? Maybe it was a Bobcat car, but it wouldn't have had a swiss cheese frame, and I don't think Royal would have painted a brand new blue car white to make a Bobcat. Then, on what they claim is a rare car they do essentially a restomod instead of a restoration. Having said all that, I wouldn't mind having it either. I just think there's more than a little hyperbole in their description. |

I saw the car also. Didn't PHS go back to 61? If so that would tell how the car was originally equipped and maybe help clear up a lot about it. I believe the seller is just puffing it up trying to sell it.

Hmm. Interesting. So he thinks it might be one of these?
I tend to agree with Stuart. I don't think Royal would start with a blue car and then paint it red and white. K

Thanks, I do that a lot when I put links in......I agree the description is very odd but it ended up looking very nice. If it was an original Royal car it'd be worth much more restored that way.

Exactly, you would never take a car you thought to be a Royal and smooth the firewall, paint it blue etc, etc. Bunch of BS. Sell it as it is, it's worth some money as is. |
