I have two cams the first one is a Comp 300b this is the cam I have been running, the specs are http://www.compcams.com/Cam_Specs/Ca...csid=1223&sb=0 the other one is a Lunati the specs on it is http://www.lunatipower.com/Product.aspx?id=1746&gid=247 I hope these links work, I've never done it before. The motor is a 4.25 stroke 400 with 6.8 rods (461) with Kauffman High Port heads, I have a Victor intake and 1050 dominator on alcohol. The motor is in a rear engine dragster. I use a powerglide trans with 4000 stall and leave at 3600 and shift at 5800 rearend ratio is 4.00 and I run a 14x32 tire. I run mainly 1/8 mile and run mid 5.20s I ran the Lunati cam in a 400 years ago and it worked good, but a totally different combo, just wondering if it might work better than the 300b. I know that I could go to a roller setup and pickup, and I may do that someday but for now I'm going to run what I have.

I'm no cam expert but they both seem "small" for Hi-ports. Understand using what ya got though..They both are very close (IMO) so I would go for the Lunati with the greater lift to take advantage of Hi-ports flow. Use 1.65 or 1.72 rockers if you can for max lift..
Curious what "the experts" have to say as I'm trying to come up with a cam for my combo myself.. ![]()

ky, no I have never bought a cam from you, must have me mixed up with someone else. I agree that both of these cams are small, and I'm using 1.65 rockers. When I switched from 1.5 to 1.65 on the 300b I picked over a tenth.

I just sold one on ebay a month or so ago, and when I saw the cam you had was a 40711 Lunati, thougt it might have been the one I sold. No biggie. Good luck with your project

I don't think the Lunati will outperform the 300B.
May as well hang with what you have until you can put a solid roller in it with a good amount of lift.

I just done some math and the 300b with 1.65 rockers is .618/.612 lift and the Lunati with 1.65 rockers is .633/.636 so that would be a difference of .015 intake and .024 exaust lift between the two cams. My question is how much does rocker ratio effect dur.? I think Ron is right but since I have both cams I will try the Lunati, I'm sure that valve clearance and springs should'nt be an issue, but I'll double check.

But you are not accounting for the valve timing differences. The lift difference will not give much if anything.
I think the less overlap and shorter duration on the lunati will slow you down even with the slightly more lift. Don't know until you try. But it is a bit of work to swap. And gaskets, etc.

If you picked up a tenth with the rocker arm change, your car is begging for more cam shaft.
