Default Internal Balance Damper???

What do you recommend for 650 hp race motor... close to finishing up and budget is low. Does it have to cost $400 to get the job done? Pros and cons??? ATI is engine builders 1st choice but dont want to spend the money unnecessarily.

all Pontiac dampers, factory and aftermarket, are neutral balance use whichever you like

maybe you are thinking of flexplates, most of which have an imbalance like factory flexes except for SFI TCI and maybe 1-2 others

ATI.
most of the romac style balancers have the possibility of the outer ring slipping during hard engine acceleration.

Pioneer offers an SFI-approved unit for right around $200. BHJ also has a good one, $350. The ATI is a good one, too. For the power level you state, and revs under 8,000, any one of these should suffice.

carefull with the bhj stuff. i have had a few of them slip the outer ring. it will still be in balance but the timing marks will be off.
no matter what one you use, verify the tdc marks upon installation and put witness marks on the ring and the hub so you can tell if it has been moving.

Need a s.f.i. certified fluid balancer, tested for 1 hour @ 10,000 r.p.m.
New and inexpensive, call 1-303-776-0877.
