Default 70 GTO WAGON

From T.U.G.T.O.P.S. The pictures were from ebay. Does anyone know anything about this car? I was just thinking about what happened to it, wondered if it got parted out or finished. Kind of a crazy custom job but I sort of like it!

You don't see many original Le Mans wagons and when you do they seem to be '71 or '72's. Anyone own (or seen) stock '70 Le Mans wagons. Any pics? This is the Dealer Postcard for a '70 Wagon.
Steve.

The side view of that thing looks like hell! The window mismatch kills it. He'd have been better off using wagon parts in place of the hardtop stuff.

I think you're right about the '70 wagons. I don't recall seeing any around either. The A-body wagons, or any old wagons for that matter, are pretty rare these days, but you definitely see more '71-'72s.

There is a lot of work into that. It looks like he used a 2 door donor in front of the rear pilar. The front wagon doors are shorter. He has hardtop doors on it.

Had a 70 Lemans Wagon for about a year. My cousin bought it from me on his 16th birthday. He is doing the car in the original Bermuda Blue with Judge stripes. He has the car back on the frame with all new suspension and lines. Metal work is underway. It's one that I should have never sold, but going to make a real nice car when done.

Yeah, I agree that the window line wrecks it, but someone went to a lot of trouble on that thing at some point to make it look that "different". I have seen a 68 Chevelle Coupe/Wagon on the 'net done exactly the same way, it didn't look as bad but it was finished and painted black with a red interior. The GTO apparently sold on ebay, I hope it turns up somewhere finished. Might of been easier (and more pleasing to the eye) to convert a wagon to a custom 4 door Hardtop style.

2manyponchos, that sounds like a nice one, Factory Bermuda Blue too! At least it's still in the family. Do you or your cousin have any pics pre or during the resto you would want to share?

You just don't see many '70's on the 'net, and when you look at the numbers Ken posted the three years are pretty close in totals. What happened to all the '70's?
Anyone else got some stashed away?

IMO the builder of the above car should've used doors from a Post car. The htp 1/4 window line is just wrong on a wagon.

I have a '70 LeMans wagon I'm working on. Just painted the frame today. I have only seen one other '70 in my life. The car is great to work on because it is from New Mexico. The rear quarters do have some rust though. It will be back on the road in the spring. There was a T41 equiped '72 in a junk yard years ago, orange and beat to heck.

Here is my latest project. 1970 Lemans wagon. This is not going to be done quickly, but it will be fun.
I plan to eject the 350/350 and put in a 400/200r4 combo to start. I already put in the 8.2 rearend from my GTO, which has 3:55 gears in it.

Never a dull moment with older cars around.

Nice car 455Wagon, now that makes three PYers with 'em. What is parked in front of your silver car out of curiousity?

I know there are some 71/72 wagons on here too, any owners care to share their details?

In all I've only seen one 72 wagon here in Australia in the flesh and an advertised 69 wagon that I think ended up in a wreckers in Sydney a long time ago. It seems that it's not much better over there either!
Big car wagons seemed to be popular in the funeral business over here as hearses. Something flash to go "out" in and no need to extend the length of 'em.

Steve.

70Steve, that is a 1986 Oldsmobile custom crusier wagon with a 403cu in motor, a 200r4 tranny ,3.73 rear gears, and 295/15/60 rear tires. It would be classed as a full size wagon, not a mid sized like the lemans wagon. Right now we are teaching my daughter to drive in it.
I will try and dig up a picture soonest.
