Default Flexplate install

How do you know what side faces the block when putting this back on? I marked it with a B and T, but cleaned them off by accident... also does the shim go in between the wheel and the crang, or the bolts and the wheel? thanks

Thanks
Vic

It can only go on one way.

Take a close look, the bolt pattern has one hole that is offset. That one bolt hole won't line up if you have it on there wrong, it can't be put on backward.

Pontiac engineers are clever like that.

The shim goes between the crank and the flexplate.

What shim goes between the crank and flexplate?

Couple of questions: I thought the flexplate mounted directly to the crank.

Having said that, is maximum clearance between the flexplate and converter 3/16"?

If it's more than 3/16" are washers used to remove distance between the converter and flexplate? (installed on the converter bolts.)

Thanks
Charles

Charles,

The thin shim between the crank flange and the flexplate really doesn't need to be there and I've left it out most of the time, but all of the untouched auto-trans engines I've torn down have had them.

Use 3 hardened washers of equal thickness as spacers for anything more than 3/16" between the converter and flexplate.

Yes flexplate can only go on one way, as for 3/16 to the converter, mine is .100 with new converter.
