Default valve cover baffles

I had been planning on reusing my original valve covers, but I may have clearance issues, and after weeks of every reccomended cleaning method, I can not get the gunk out of the baffles. Can I just pull the baffles out? I can get a new pair fairly cheap (28 bucks from PAW) if not. Thanks

Is this a real Pontiac motor we are talking about, or a chevy small block?

any recommendations on this? I am going to bead blast them now. The biggest isue that I am having to get cleaned is the built up old oil that is trapped in between the baffles and the tops of the cover. There are only about 6 spot welds that would be very easy to pop...

There are a whole bunch of ways to deal with that...

DON'T BEAD BLAST THEM!!!

You'll never get all the blasting media out of those baffles, and you dont want any of that stuff getting in the motor, right?

You can bake them at high temps, that should get the stuff loose, use an old weber grille or such.

Oven cleaner works OK too, especially with the above method.

I would hit them with some super clean first to get the bulk of the stuff off first, then rinse them thoroughly with water before trying the previously mentioned methods.

But you should never bead blast those sorta pieces if at all possible.

As for busting the spot welds loose, yeah that's an option too.

If you remove the baffles,,,then by all means,,,feel free to bead blast them...

I took them to a solvent tank, and realized tha the passenger side one was pretty bent so I dont think I will use them anyway. Any recommendations on the cheap stock replacements? If I bought some chrome ones, could I hit them with a rough grit scuff pad then prime and paint blue?
