67 wiper grounds
Can someone tell me where the ground for the wiper motor is? I replaced my engine harness now my wipers don't work, yes they worked before I changed that harness. I also painted the engine compartment.
I have power at all the terminals when I turn the wipers on but the middle terminal closest to the firewall only lights the test light dimly like its a bad ground Also can someone tell me what the top fuse on the fuse panel is for, it was blown and when I replaced it it did not blow again but just curious as to what it goes to Thanks John |

Wiper motor is hot all the time with ignition switch on. Black wire with yellow stripe is the main power wire to the wiper motor coming from the fuse box.
Ground/grounds are done by the wiper switch. Black with yellow is hot, the switch grounding the other wires is how you get different functions; low, high, wash... So with power to the motor, need to check wiper switch and make sure it's properly grounded to the dash. Diagnosing wiper motors cause a lot of people problems because compared to other electrical components they appear to be wired up backwards. You normally turn power on to something to make it work, not ground it. |

Ok thanks I will try grounding the wire with the low voltage to see if that gets them working

Just don't ground black wire with yellow stripe, switched power, that'll blow a fuse.
If the wiper motor's good, grounding any of the other wires or their terminals, at the wiper motor, should make something happen. High, low, or wash as long as you have YOUR ground attached. If you do get some functions, your problem can be wiper switch or its ground, and maybe a bad connection where the wires plug in the bulkhead connector/fire wall plug. If you removed the wiper motor while you was doing the detail work, might want to double check rods, arms, and linkage to the wiper arm transmissions. Just to make sure something isn't stuck or in a bind. Good luck and let us know what you find. It makes great reference material for others. |
