Back in High School, a close friend's Dad worked there until it closed in 87 then made the daily commute to the Moraine plant in Dayton until he retired about 6-7 years ago. His Dad now is a scared camper.

Rob, from what I heard he lost dental and vision from his retirement bennies and the benefit he gets now is what he'll get, there will be no more raises in benefits for retirees.

Mike, His Dad was the type that worked as much overtime as he could so he could retire at 55 and put most of that in GM stock. That's why he's scared.

He should be then. Chances are he'll lose it all [worthless due to bankruptcy decree] unless he needs wallpaper.

I couldn't even imagine having all my eggs in GM stock 2 years ago then seeing what it's worth today. I thought a divorce was bad enough and watching GE go from $40 to $7.

Mike
I also invested exactly as my honored father (God rest his soul) taught me: (1) in my home, and (2) in GM stock.

At least I am still working....

Keith and you probably will be for a long time yet.

I hate to see it but I think that's what will come to pass.

I guess I'm fortunate not to have had any money invested in GM.

We were talking about that plant just last night. There were several comparisons made between the lots here now filled with RVs and boats, and the closed Norwood Showcase parking lot that used to house all of the overstock cars from the GM plants in the 70's. Two of the guys at dinner were old enough to remember that it used to be a drive in and that Norwood lateral was BUILT to accomodate GM. Great conversation with a lot of history I didn't know about.

I was by the Moraine plant a couple months ago and the lots were empty due to the shut down. It really hits home when you see that much empty space.
