Default Lets Talk Headers!!!!!!!!!!

1973 455 with 6X heads shoehorned into a 1967 Firebird. Very little clearence between the drivers side block and the power steering. ?????? What headers have others used with this same setup? Clearence is the main issue. Power and price comes next. Stock manifolds in place now.

Anyone, Anyone

Thanks

Larry

Hooker Competition #4902 have 1 5/8" tubes (4-tube) and 3" collectors. Fit good with plenty of clearance, and don't hang down low underneath. I have them on my 428 Ventura and they don't hit anywhere. I also cut the flanges between the exhaust ports for easier installation and maintenance.

Your 6X head 455 is nothing special as far as header fit is concerned, all of the first-gen '67 -'69 F-bodies have tight clearance right next to the steering box.

A 455 is the same exact external size as the 326, 350 and 400 V8s that came in these cars originally and all of them take the same headers.

Doug's Headers are some of the best fitting headers, you really can't go wrong with them.

Your post was moved to the 'Exhaust Tech' forum where exhaust issues are usually discussed.

Larry, shoehorned?? You DO realize the 455 is the exact same physical dimensions as a 326, 350, 400 etc?

Just use a set of D-port headers for a 67-69 Firebird and you should be fine.

All right. I read it wrong, thought it was moved out of exhaust. And admitting my ignorance. did not realize the 455 was same size. Still looks shoehorned to me.

So Ah Thanks??

It's true there isn't a lot of extra room around the engine in these cars, a Pontiac V8 isn't at all like the small block Chevy as far as fit is concerned in the early F-bodies.

The engine is offset towards the passenger side by one inch to try to make room for the steering box.

if it helps,i had hooker headers on a 400 with edelbrook alum heads.first pair, lelt side hung 1 1/2 lower than right.second pair flange was 1/4 of straight edge, called hooker they said this was in there tolerance.had lot trouble getting them to seal.put ram air mans back on ,the lose of power was slight.there easy to install and seam to flow well.

Doug's Headers will fit great, provide great ground clearance, won't leak, and will look good.
