Very nice tire and wheel combo too. Did you put disc brakes on the rear?

So I went to bolt the body down and ran into a small problem.I put the 4 bolts in the rear bushings and the 2 at the firewall and the 2 at the front of the front doors no problem. The ones that go just in front of the rear wheel don't work. The hole is off on both sides. On my original floor the bushing sat right in the middle of the crossmember but now does not.I think that maybe the crossmember is off a bit? That's the only thing that I can figure since all the other bolts line up.I do know that some cars didn't have a bolt in that location so I guess it should be ok.

Very nice work. You doing all the work yourself or do you have a helper? Its nice to get help when needed. But I enjoy doing most alone.
Nice work.

I have a 1970 LeMans Sport convertible. When I went to take the body off the frame, there was no bolt in the location you mentioned. They could have put one in there because it has a threaded caged nut in the cross member there but they never did. Being a convertible with 2 mounts at the firewall, I believe the mount in question is the #4 position. Located on the 3rd floorpan crossmember in front of the rear wheels.
If you can just place a bushing in there without a bolt I think you will be as good as factory. I was thinking about putting a bolt back in that position but then I got to thinking, I do not know more than the manufacture and they must have had a reason to leave this bolt out. BTW I was reading about a Buick Skylark convertible restoration and they too mentioned no factory bolt in the #4 location. Anyway I hope this info makes you feel better about leaving that bolt out on each side. Paul

Ya in my pontiac manual it also shows no bolt in that location but my car did have one from factory.I'm not going to worry about it.

NovaRacer,
What did you use to prime/paint the floor panels. Looks very nice. The reason I ask is I just installed my 70 sport on my rotissorie. Sometime in the near future hopefuly I can do as nice a job as you did. On my frame I used MasterSeries silver two coats with 2 coats AG111 satin black. Steve

I used a rubberized gravel guard basically like a thinner version of bedliner.

What did you think of the rubberized gravel guard. How did it apply and where can I get some? I did concider Herculiner at one time.

I like it.It gives a nice look without being to thick and I think it should be better protection against stone chips etc over paint. You can get it from any autoparts or autobody supply shop.It comes in spray cans or it also comes in bigger contianers but then you need a special spray gun to spray it.I bought 6 cans and put 2 coats on and still had a can left over.

I didn't really do a lot of work on it over the summer but here is what I did.Bought a new repro brake booster and a corvette 4 wheel disc master cyl the finished the brake lines etc.Restored the wiper motor and steering column.Sandblasted the inner jamb of the doors and put the doors on.Then a few weeks ago I pulled the front fenders out and started stripping them to bare metal.Well like I expected I found a mess.Pass fender lower rear was poorly patched and rusty and the wheel well lip was the same.So I cut the bad part of the lip out and rebuilt it.The drivers side was worse and required a whole new lip. Then I ordered replacement panels for the lower rear part of the fenders that include the inner brace from PY.I replaced the pass one but haven't started on the drivers one.Right now I am doing some repair to where the rear of the pass door meets the quarter. The car was in a accident at one time and needed some pulling to make it fit right.

The fender patch fit pretty good, the inner bracing didn't line up properly but a little modifing made it work. |

Well it looks like it's been a while since i posted in this thread.I spent the winter doing body work and repairing more rust. The drivers fender didn't turn out so good so I decided to look for one.I also had to replace the front section of the hood.
