Why does my speedo bounce? It's fine up until 70+mph then it starts bouncing wildly, in between 70-90mph.
What's up with that? ![]() And do NOT tell me to just slow down!!! ![]()

The drive cable could be sticking needs lubing.

Graphite based speedo cable lube, hard to find but it's out there.
If you disconnect it from under the dash, usually you can pull the whole speedo cable out and inspect it for fraying, then wipe it down and lube it up and slide it back in the cable housing. Also be sure to check the cable housing for any kinks/pinches/tight bends too. ![]() |

All above are good responses and make sense to do first as they are easiest and least costly.
If you find the cable and housing and driven/drive gears have no issues, you'll probably have to remove your speedo and have it cleaned and lubed...... These old speedos were never intended to go 40 years without servicing |

If you unhook your cable from the speedo, spray some WD-40 on the part that the cable goes into and spin it and spray and keep repeating. I've done it many times.

Graphite works very well, as does lithium grease.
