66 GTO alternator bracket
I am going to run a 69 Q-Jet manifold on my car and was wondering what alternator to intake manifold bracket I should get? I see that PY offers one for the 66 GTO and then for the 67. Just wondering if the 66 AFB manifold is much different from the 67 and later.

You should be OK with your original 66 rear bracket. The rear bracket attaches at
the front thermostat housing bolt, and that would not change with the 69 manifold. This does assume you are using the 66 engine and 66 front cover/water pump |

I should have been more descriptive. The rear bracket attaced to the water neck of the tri-power manifold which mounts to the thermostat cover on the FRONT side of the manifold. I am going to a 69 4-bbl manifold which has the thermostat cover on the TOP of the manifold.

Assuming you are running the 66 front bracket, the regular 66 rear bracket is
what you need. Both the 66 AFB manifold and the later 69 both would mount that bracket at the front thermo housing bolt. Now if your using a 67/68 or 69 front bracket, the rear bracket would need to match the year. Differant lengths, and slightly differant angles were used. I think the 66 brackets were the longest of these, and the 69 would be the shortest. I know some will tell you the rear bracket is not even needed, and i see lots of cars with only the front bracket used. For me, use them both as its cheap insurance to avoid throwing a belt. The tri-power rear bracket you have is specific to that setup, so you may want to keep that with the tri-power for future use. The fact that you have a set, tells me that your front bracket is surely the 66. Just order the 66 four barrel rear bracket and you should be all set. |
