Convertible body handle 600 horse?
I am building a 1967 firebird convertible with my dad. We installed weld in frame connectors for added strength. The motor is on the way, its a Butler 461 stroker with race ported E-head, port matched victor intake, 4 bolt mains, forged crank, and 950 holley. It should put out around 600 horse and 600 ft/lbs of torque at the crank. Should I have any concern about twisting the frame?

You should be looking at adding an 8 point roll bar before you do any permanent damage to the frame.

Put big slicks on it and watch the left front wheel come up about 24" while the right front stays on the ground. Without a good cage even a sedan or hardtop will do that, Its just more exaggerated with a convert. Especially ones without a full frame.
On the other hand if this car is meant for more street than strip, hammer it and have fun! |

If you do not have a interlocking type drivers side motor mount, you better chain down that side of the engine once you start hooking!

Just don't hook the car and you'll be fine, the tires will spin instead. But if you get traction ...

with that kind of power unless you run an 8 point or street tires no track will let you run. my conv runs 10.98 without problems but i have a cage.you will be way faster than13.50 below which you must have a cage for a conv.with that kind of power and any slicks you will be mid 11s at worst.get the cage and have fun.

Twisting the frame around is one thing, but the load on the engine and trans is another. Hate to see that new butler engine broken.

I've run 150 shot on my n/a 435 rwhp 67 convertible at the track for years with no issues to the body. I've broken 2 rear axles, a TKO manual trans and ripped the perches off a Moser 9" but have never hurt the body. Doors still close like a new car. I have welded subframe connectors and CalTracs, but no roll bar or cage. The Pontiac ragtops are much tougher than you would expect. By comparison, my 88 Mustang GT was a flexing POS with just a stock 5.0 and slicks. I'll eventually get a 5 or 6 point bar of some kind.
