Brake/Turn Signals
I have a 64 GTO. Tail lights work and I have power in and out of the turn signal flasher and to the brake light switch, but neither works. I think there must be a relay but I can't locate it. Can anyone tell me where to find it or do you have any other suggestions?

The power goes to these switches and then into and out of the turn signal switch. Check out these diagrams,
http://www.tocmp.com/tOCMP/wiring/Po...re5765-340.jpg U should have power at bottom of turn signal switch, dark green for left turn and brake, yellow for right turn and brake. power into turn signal switch from flasher is purple, power in from brake light switch is natural. Quite common for turn signal switch to have issues like this. Rick

Just a thought. One other thing to check... fuse block on the firewall, engine side. I redid my grills a few weeks ago and when I put them back in I had no signals or parking lights. Come to find out, the fuse block was loose and needed to be locked back together, the bottom tabs had unlocked. Locked them up and parking lights and signals work again.

No relays for turn/brake, all goes through turn signal switch.
Lemans64 has you headed in the right direction. Check for power going up the column and then coming back down. Check at the turn signal switch connector, on column, under dash. Power going up the column; Purple wire, from flasher, should be hot all the time with ignition switch on. Natural wire, from stop light switch, hot when you mash the brake. Power coming back down the column; Dark green and yellow are the rear stop/turn wires. Dark blue and light blue are front turn and turn indicator wires. If you have power going to the turn signal switch, brake or turn, and no power coming back out, turn signal switch is bad. If power is coming back down the column; check bulbs, grounds, and harness connectors. Post back what you find. |
