Default Need help IDing rear axle code

On my 68 GTO the rust is way too heavy to find any #s on the axle. I took took the rear end cover off and was told that the #s would be on the gears. The #s on the gear are 41 14 GM then reading across it appears to be stamped backwards 98 BA. Hope this helps to find my gear ratio. I'm curious as hell.

41 divided by 14 will give you your ratio. I don't have a calculator handy.

I agree, I've had a couple auto/AC cars and both had the original 2.93 rears.

In 69 the Auto A/C with the base engine was changed to 3.23 and during the model run (unannounced) they seem to have switched to 3.55 gears on Non A/C auto base engines.

I just happen to have a TA rear end out back along with a spare posi case and 3.23 gears. Both new in box.
How wide is your GTO axle(backing plate to bkg plt)?
All we would have to do is R & I the control arm and spring mounting brackets.
