My deal from tearing down long stroke short rod deals to get everything to fit.
You only have so much deck height to work with. You can only put the pin so high in the piston. That leaves rod length and piston speed. Better have a good flowing head to run a short rod. With the rod angle you end up with, lotta load on the skirt and have seen weird patterns in the skirts. Shorter ring life. Even with a 4.5 in a Pontiac block you are pushing the longevtivity with a 6.8 and the pin way up in the oil ring rails. 6.7 even more load to get the pin out of the oil rail. Then you have the factory block and long stroke endurance. With the Bore remaining the same i don't see the hp gain with a 4.750. The torque gain to me isn't worth the 1/4" more stroke and a street combo. Now if AllPontiac comes out with a tall deck like Dick offered with the IA 1. |
