Switch pitch will withstand, But i have to ask, You do have the whole switch pitch transmission set up ?
Reason being is you cant just put a switch pitch converter on a regular TH400 and visa versa.
There is spline differances on the pump

The key attribute of the switch pitch is its ability not to be just like, but the same as or tighter than a stock converter in normal mode then when the switch is activated it will stall higher.. ( low and high stall speeds depend on converter manufacture )

If its a 75-100% drag car you would probably be better off with a full time stall if it is driven on the street very much you will like a correctly operating switch pitch trans.

Point bein if your just interested in ET. whatever converter is the proper stall along with being coupled well will net a good ET... FWIW a switch pitch is coupled well in normal mode after launch

You already have it why not use it

I ran my 455 GTO with a switch pitch converter and was running an Ultrdayne 223-231 110 lsa cam and even in the "stall mode" the car did not idle worth a dam in traffic.. Also I had the solenoid in the trans burn out once and as I recall the whole trans had to be pulled to get at it. This was back in 91 or 92. As long as you have the set up then use it but a 2500 stall converter would probably work a lot better.

Switch-Pitch will only help the Strip 60foot & stop-light pull away., while giving a low-stall on the Street.

So, I figure the High-Stall is like a 2800-3200 10" converter However the Swi-Pitch definitely becomes a low-stall converter at ~40-45MPH regardless of it's switch setting.

I have been running a SP trans/converter for about 10 years.

There is a HUGE difference between a stock SP converter and a modified SP converter. IMO, if your going to use a SP, don't waste your time on a stock SP converter, get a modified one from PAE or someone else w/experience building them.

I am using a PAE Converter. http://www.paeenterprises.com/paeframe.html

I am using the converter that is rated at 1400/4000. I ordered mine with a steel turbine hub($25 extra) and they said it should be good to at least 700 HP.

I used a stock s/p converter for a while. The stock converter has MUCH less stall change than the PAE converter. It is often hard to tell if the stock SP converter is in high or low stall. If you pay attention you can tell, but is it is not a lot different between high and low stall.

With the PAE conveter there is HUGE difference between high and low stall. Can easily rev the motor to 2500 w/foot on the brakes in high stall and revs to around 4000 rpm on launch with drag radials and a fairly healthy 455.

If you make a lot of power and run stock type street tires, it probably will not make the car any faster. Will just blow the tires away. Does make if significantly faster if you can get it to hook up.

Sorry about the dead link. I copied it from a post I did several years ago. It worked then, but is apparently dead now.

I just did a Google search and put some links below that looked informative.

I only linked to a few posts/sites. Do a Google search and you will see that there are many more.

MY SWi_Pi converter came from Chhris at Ca performance. IT too has the steel stator, and was ordered/rated for boosted 455 usage.

It has a nice Hi/Lo ration up to 30MPH, beyond that there is a noticable decreas in Hi/Lo ratio, with no difference (it's all low slip) after 45MPH. So itsa 60foot thing for Track, so itsa nice Street pull-away item in Low ( casual driving ) or high ( enthusiast driving).
