Use a good billet chain setup. Gear drives can transmit harmful harmonics to the valvetrain.

Why do you want to use a gear drive?

Whipman, I ran a Milodon gear drive for several, short, summer seasons, on a hydraulic cam, but when I switched to a solid cam, I lost two sets of valve springs in one summer. A gear drive doesn't dampen harmonics like a blower belt will do. If you run a belt driven blower, or a hydraulic cam, you should be okay. I know that the valve timing will stay dead nuts with a gear set up. If you do decide to run a gear, don't run one with dual idlers, especially at higher rpms. Since you are in Austalia, why not run the best timing chain set ever made? The Romac Rollmaster. I run one on my small (474) race engine. I have a belt drive on my other (606) engine, but I have no qualms about the chain set up.

Well my timming is really strange if i use a timming light and line up the timming marks as they should be the motor wont run for the motor to run the timming is way advanced or way past the timming mark as in 3 to 4 inchs or more i thought the gear drive might be the way to go thanks ....Steve

btw i run a 400 sbc was in the car when i got it

Dual Idler gear drives are Junk IMHO, they eat through the block and t-cover, ever see an engine that ran one for any length of time? Fixed Idler's are good and Billit double roller Sims Timing being the best there is IMO, heck even the Link style T-sets are strong as heck! just a PITA to Degree!
