Default rack and pinion weight savings?

I was looking at the TRZ rack and control arms, anyone use their rack? How much weight does it save over a manual box?Their site says 15lbs per side on the control arms, but nothing about the rack.

Mark, I just did that kit to my car. I was not able to put the rack kit on a scale but the steering linkage and flaming river box came in at 42 lbs. The rack is pretty light with the tie rods, throw in some chrome moly tubing, I'm guessing I saved at least 20 lbs, but more importantly I gained a bunch of room underneath/sides for new headders when the time comes and will be a lot easier to take the diaper on & off.

If I was going with a rack I'd use this company.

i know it isnt an a-body, but i heard if you do the whole trz kit for a g-body (rack and pinion, upper and lower control arms, spindles, coil-overs, tie rods, etc), you will lose over 100lbs.

I would check with unisteer, but I believe their kits are made to fit chevy motors not pontiac. I tried one for the F body and had to send it back because it would only work with sbc motor.

You really do not needa kit. My car has a pinto rack installed. The lower crossmember was sectioned then tabs welded in.

Will that bolt in? I looked off the website and didn't see any bracketry.

When I was redoing my steering I couldn't find a bolt in kit that would work with pontiac motor installed they all seemed to be made for chassis with SBCs. Those kits had bracketry which bolted to the bolts off the lower control arm. I guess the rack wont clear the pontiac oil pan.

I ended up just installing a rebuilt box and new tie rods. Big improvement over the 30 year old box that was in the car. I would have definately liked to go to rack and pinion.

It's a weld in deal with a little fabrication from what I understand.
