Default need some help with a 1979 10th Anniversary T/A

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Can someone help me with a items I need for a 1979 10 Anniversary T/A.

1. I need a set of e-brake cables, (for a disc brake rear end) is anyone repoping these?

2. The car is has a set of polished Turbo wheels, where can I get center caps?

3. I need the ring that fastens the shaker to the air cleaner...any ideas?

4. Is the steering special to a 10th Anniversary car? If so, could someone supply me with a picture of one. I also need a steering wheel center.

5. What year Trans Am had the eagle on the gas filler door? This car does not have one, is that correct?

Any help or advise is really appreciated.
Brian Scoles.

Not sure on the other questions, but I can help point you in the right direction on #3. Search Trans Am Shaker Scoop on ebay, and nearly every week there are 2-3 of those rings up for auction.

Hi Scoles.

Re Item 5, there is no firebird on the gas door of TATA's.

Re Item 3, Mark Kornbluth is selling one on the Parts for Sale on these forums:

You may also find it helpful to review the posts in this forum specifically for TATA's:

Good luck with the restoration.

Thanks for the replies, I really appreciate it.

165th; the TATA I have in my yard is owned by a friend. He has very little interest in the car except to get it correct to sell it. I'm simply trying to find some hard to find parts and get the car presentable. At this point the car has lots of small things wrong but overall it is a beautiful auto.

Has anyone had any luck getting the e-brake cables from an aftermarket source?

Brian Scoles.

Our HOST,Performance Years lists 79-81 rear brake cables for less than $25.00/ea. & repro centercaps. Correct round stainless ones & 80-81 hex plastic.(less $$$)

I'd be giving them a call.

I wonder why they never put reclining seats in these. Does anyone know of a retro fit or conversion to do that?

Years ago they used to sell a retrofit kit for reclining seats, but they weren't that great. The 1973-1974 Grand Ams came with reclining seats and minus the tracks and the obvious external reclining mechanism, they are the same seat as a similar vintage Firebird.

3) The ring is not anything special to TATA cars, so you should be able to find one from someone parting one out.

5) Only 1981 Firebirds had the bird on the door.

I looked at a TATA on Ebay that had 321 original miles, and it looks like the seat belt buckles are the metal type. Someone on this site told me they were the plastic covered type. Anyone have any pics of originals?
