Driver's side.

All of the V8 cars had the fuel lines on the driver's side, the 6-cylinder cars (no GTOs of course) had them on the passenger side.

All of the '64 -'67 A-body Pontiacs (GTO included) used a 5/16" fuel line. The '67 360 HP HO and Ram Air cars didn't use a different fuel line.

When the next generation appeared in '68 a 3/8" fuel line was used.

Whoops -- both my 67 HO goat and the 67 A/C cruiser came with 3/8" feed line and a 1/4" return line on the driver's side. The regular V8 goats without A/C did come with the 5/16" line.

agree with B-man, All of my four '67 A-body Pontiacs (2 GTOs and two Tempests) used a 5/16" fuel line. All are factory AC cars. Even the fuel pump hose nipples are 5/16 inch.

Man, I hate when that happens! As soon as Engineer posted I knew I was in trouble. I deserve it for relying on my memory. I went out and crawled under the HO, and the lines are indeed 5/16". My apologies to B-Man for doubting him -- I should have known better.

My only real reference was the PY A-body catalog, I looked at the repro steel and stainless lines and no 3/8 inch lines were listed until the year 1968.

It's amazing the kind of info you can glean from restoration parts catalogs, you can even figure out parts interchange in some cases too.

Default FUEL LINES

My 67 GTO has a chevy small block in it which is the way I bought it. I have a 67 block to rebuild. My fuel lines are not on the drivers side any longer, they are on the passenger side. We have installed a new gas tank and the fuel line from the tank and over the rear is a cloth covered rubber line. Finding the lines on the passenger side concerned me that this thing may be a 6 cylinder car that was converted to a GTO. The numbers all match for GTO. I think the fuel line may have been changed to accomodate the chevy motor which has the fuel pump on the passenger side. There is also a compression fitting in the line under the body in the middle. Does anyone know what else to look for to confim this is a real GTO.

Sounds like the line was cut to make removing it, with the body on the frame, easier. Get a PHS report on the VIN. That will tell you what you have.
Fuel line should be all steel from the front, over the rear end, to the gas tank except for two short lengths of rubber gas line at the tank and fuel pump. You should also have a 1/4" return line.If I am wrong about the return line, I will be corrected soon enough, by someone who knows more than I do. And that is just about everyone on the forums.

All of the return lines are 1/4".

The first 3 numbers on the 'Body By Fisher' tag on the firewall should be '242' if it's a GTO.

24207 - Sports Coupe (also known as a 'post' coupe)

24217 - Hardtop Coupe (no window post)

24267 - Convertible

Of course PHS documents should be also used to verify the car using the VIN#.

Default FUEL LINES

Hey Guys,
Thanks for the info, it is a 242 car, I just get a little concerned when I see something not where it belongs. I also know this car was a drag car for most of its life and has many different motors in it. I have an Oldsmobile 12 bolt rear in it with 411 gears, a borg warner super T-10 4 speed and holes in the fender wells for fender headers.
As for the return line, there was none for 67 as I have just recently replaced the gas tank and sending unit and it did not call for it.
Thanks Guys,
Bill

Default GTO FUEL LINES

Maybe the return line is an AC thing. Maybe I am wrong, but I bought the proper sending unit and it did not have a place for a return line.

You are correct, the A/C cars had the return line.

Nowadays with the poor fuel quality we're stuck with a return line is a good idea to help prevent vapor lock even on non-A/C cars.

That is strange as I bought a 5/16th sending unit and it was not the correct size, I had to send it back to get a 3/8th unit.

This car appears to be original as far as fuel and brake lines.

Any chance a late 67 car would have came with a 3/8th? This is also an A/C car.

I have pictures I can post if required prior to the tear down.

Since I am ready to order lines for mine, this topic came to mind. My 67 GTO has the 1/4" return line, 5/16" fuel line. Four speed, no A/C, very original, #s matching with the WT block 335 h.p. engine. I've had it since 1973, so I know it's correct.
January/Baltimore built FWIW.

Early build 67 GTO's even without AC had the return line.

OK, after reading this again I went and looked again and my fuel line is 5/16th, what I was looking at before was the input to the fuel sending unit. The inlet to the fuel sending unit is 3/8th.

Mine has a 1/4'' return line as well.

I ordered a replacement fuel sending unit and it does not have the place for the return line. Does anyone make a replacement with a return line? I still have the original if it could be tested and repaired if needed.

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Troy
