Default 1966 Lemans

Hello, I am looking at a 66 Lemans. Does anyone know the overall length? I have a micro garage and want to make sure it will fit before I buy it! Also, is there a web site that I can get that kind of info. I can find many about the GTO but not the Lemans. Stuff such as options, transmissions etc. Thanks, Jeff

Thanks, I do realize that in most aspects they are the same car. I understand the Lemans came with 2 different HP 326's. How can you tell the difference? What transmissions were offered. Waht options were offered. Options-Are there any differences from the GTO to the Lemans? What were the production numbers for the Lemans? Were there 3 styles like the GTO- HT, Sedan and Convert?

Things like that that I can't find just for the Lemans line.

Sorry if my questions sound stupid but I am new to the Pontiac world. I am trying to get my feet wet with this stuff.

Jeff

I cant answer all your questions, but the over all length is about 17 feet. Weight is around 3500 pounds.

Many of the options in the GTO (save for motor/trans) were the same. Ive seen a few LeMans with a ton of options and the PHS although its rare to see.

As for production, It had to be at least 200,000 units. 66 was the best year for the GTO and I think production was about 90,000 for that year.

Motors were the 326 and the in line 6 otherwise know as the Sprint motor. Was there an H.O. 326 in 66 anyone?? I pretty sure there wasn't. I m sure I'm missing a lot of info here, but this the best I could do just off the top of my head.

Welcome to the board Jeff. Theres a lot of knowledgeable people here. Dont be afraid to ask any questions no matter how dumb you might think it be. Someone will give you the right answer as we've all been though it.

Try and find a copy of the "Book of Information".
I think it's no longer being printed but may still be found here & there.
It has lots of info on all models 64-70. It's just a copy of lots of Pontiac info, but a great source none the less.

As far as 66' Lemans engines it was 230 OHC both standard &/or the First year Sprint option.
Not all 6's were Sprints.
326 standard & HO as well. The HO had a different air cleaner then the base 326 but you would need to find the codes to tell for sure.

As far as a length. My Lemans is 16' 11.5 " (+- .5")
edge of rear bumper to edge of front bumper.

Default 66 LEMANS

HEY JEFF, I RECENTLY HAD THE SAME QUESTION ON THE LEMANS 326- 326 HO QUESTION YOU ARE ASKING. I DID A LITTLE RESEARCH ON IT. WHEN YOU GET THE CAR . LIFT THE HOOD AND ON THE LEFT FRONT BLOCK THERE WILL BE ENGINE SERIAL NUMBERS THERE.( CLEAN AWAY THE GREASE) DIRECTLY BENEATH THOSE NUMBERS THERE SHOULD BE A TWO LETTER CODE. THERE ARE THREE OF THE CODES TO IDENTIFY THE HO MOTOR . WR DENOTES AN HO MOTOR IN FRONT OF A MANUAL TRANS, YP AND XG DENOTES HO MOTORS IN FRONT OF AUTOMATICS. I FOUND THIS INFO IN A 1966 TEMPEST CHASSIS SHOP MANUAL WHICH IS READILY AVAILABLE ON EBAY. IT HAS BEEN INVALUBLE TO ME. IT MIGHT SAVE YOU SOME TIME WONDERING. I HAVE A 66 CONVERTABLE WITH THE HO IN IT. THESE FOLKS RIGHT HERE HELPED ME FIGURE IT OUT. GOOD LUCK!!!, BRIAN

Brian, I was trying to order some parts today so I have them when I bring the car home. (cap, rotor, points, plugs, wires) They asked me if it was a 2 point dist? Are most of these 2 point? Is the HO a 2 and the non-HO a 1 point? Thanks, Jeff

HEY JEFF, I BOUGHT POINTS FOR MINE RIGHT OFF THE BAT TO HAVE MINE TUNED UP AND THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THE POINTS WERE OK. I DIDNT TELL THE PARTS PEOPLE AT THE TIME BECAUSE I DIDNT KNOW I HAD AN HO MOTOR AT THE TIME. THE POINTS THEY GAVE ME ARE SINGLE POINT BUT IF I WERE YOU I WOULD WAIT TILL YOU GET THE CAR TO BE SURE. IT MIGHT SAVE YOU A TRIP BACK TO THE PARTS PLACE. BRIAN

Default 326 ho

HELLO, AN HO MOTOR WOULD HAVE A FOUR BARREL ON IT. IF YOU ARE LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE A CARB TAG REMAINING, LOOK FOR THE FOLLOWING: 4035 S, AUTOMATIC TRANS WITH OUT A.I.R SYSTEM, 4036S, THE 326 HO WITH MANUAL TRANS, WITHOUT A.I.R SYSTEM. AND 4031 S, AUTOMATIC WITH A.I.R SYSTEM. A.I. R( AIR INJECTION REACTOR SYSTEM) MOST LIKELY THE DEMOCRATIC PARTYS ANSWER TO GLOBAL WARMING IN 1966.HA, HA.!!( i. e. smog control). BRIAN
