Cool PRODUCTION NUMBERS 1966 LEMANS

ANYONE KNOW HOW MANY 1966 LEMANS CONVERTABLES WERE BUILT WITH THE 285 HORSE 326 HO MOTOR? ALSO DID THESE MOTORS HAVE THE PANCAKE STYLE AIR CLEANERS ON THEM OR THE MORE MUNDANE STOCK LOOKING UNITS. PLEASE RESPOND AND THANK YOU.

There were 13,080 1966 Lemans convertibles made. There are no breakdowns available by motor.

Default Can't be many...

But as stated above the breakdowns on production are very vague.

But when is the last time any of us seen a 66’ 326 HO drop top?

As far as the air cleaner they didn’t use the pancake
but did have a unique air cleaner lid.

Sorry this is the only pic I could find.

For 1966 A-body production, 3,047 326HO man trans (WR code) engines were assembled; 2,206 YP-code auto trans HOs were made. Not all of these engine assemblies were installed into cars, so this is not an official final production count, but it is very close. Since convertibles ususally constituted around 10% of the production total, it would be reasonable to guess that around 500 converts received 326HOs in '66.

my convert isn't an HO, but may be looking like a full out GTO by summers end. I almost started on the tailpanel this past week (vacation) but I decided on the cam and prettying up the engine compartment instead.

Default REPLY ON PRODUCTION NUMBERS QUESTIONS

THANKS FOR ALL THE USEFULL INFORMATION ON THE NUMBERS. I PURCHASED THE CAR LAST SUMMER AND I DONT HAVE ANY PAST INFO ON IT. I GUESS I WOULD NEED TO GET WITH PONTIAC TO SEE IF THIS AUCTUALLY IS AN HO MOTOR IN THE CAR. DID THEY COME WITH HO BADGES OF SOME TYPE ON THEM? ALL I KNOW FROM WHATI HAVE READ IS THAT THE FOUR BARREL EQUIPPED MOTORS WERE OF THE HO TYPE. THE CAR HAS AN ORIG INTAKE MANIFOLD ON IT WITH A FOUR BARREL.( OF COURSE THAT DOESNT PROVE MUCH BECAUSE SOMEONE MAY HAVE CHANGED IT ALONG THE WAY.) THE TRANS WAS BAD SO I HAD IT REDONE AND I SEEM TO REMEMBER SEEING SOME WHERE THE AFORMENTIONED AUTO TRANS CODE. ALL I KNOW IS THAT SINCE THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN FIXED AS HEAVY AS THESE CARS ARE IT HAS NO PROBLEM GETTING FROM HERE TO THERE AND BACK AGAIN WITH LITTLE EFFORT.( OF COURSE IT COULD HAVE BEEN REBUILT TO.) ANY ADDITIONAL INFO IS APRECIATED AND I THANK YOU. BRIAN P.S WHERE IN THE ??!!>???:" AM I GOING TO FIND AN AIR CLEANER LIKE THAT? HA HA!

Default 66 LEMANS CONVERTABLES PRODUCTION NUMBERS

HELLO AGAIN, I HAVE A 66 TEMPEST SHOP MANUAL I WAS LOOKING THROUGH TODAY TO TRY AND FIND A WAY TO INDENTIFY WHETHER OR NOT THE ENGINE IN MY 66 CONVERT IS AN HO OR NOT. ON PAGE 6-4 OF THIS MANUAL IT SHOWS TWO LETTER ID MARKS UNDERNEATH THE SERIAL NUMBERS OF THE ENGINE BLOCK . FOR THE 285 HORSE 326 HO THERE WERE 3, 2 LETTER CODES TO INDENTIFY THE ENGINE AS AN HO. WR, YP, ANDXG. THE WR CODE IS FOR THE MANUAL TRANS AND THE OTHER TWO ARE FOR AUTOMATICS. IT ALSO SHOWS THAT CONVERTABLES ARE UNDER THE NUMBER 237 FOR MODEL APLICATIONS AND OTHER NUMBERS TO IDENTIFY WAGONS, COUPES, ETC. MY CAR IS AN AUTOMATIC, IT IS MARKED AS A 237 APPLICATION CODE FOR CONVERTS, AND IS MARKED WITH AN YP ON THE ENGINE BLOCK BELOW THE SERIAL NUMBERS! IT IS AN HO UNTIL SOMEONE BLOWS HOLES IN MY THEORY. THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP! BRIAN
