what number is cast on the exhaust runners usually on the end runners if they are ra4 and you need to find the date codes on the heads or you could post pictures of them on here so viewers could tell you what they are

Not all RA4s have date codes, as in the ones that where sold over the counter in 1970 and after.
The 1972 455ho head will have the 1/2" pipe tap hole in the side of the head for the temp sender since it was moved off of the front of the intake manafold that year.
The 71 and 72 455ho head will have a 1/4" lip from the deck into the chamber on the shallow side of the combustion chamber.
The 69 and 70 RA4 heads chamber lip will be less than a 10th of and inch.
The 73 to 74 455SD head will have the rocker arm stud hole breaking into the roof of each intake port and will also have that 1/4" lip into the chamber.

I have a set of 722 (no not for sale) and they do not have a date code because they are from 1969. the 69 and 70 ram air iv heads the date codes are machined off for one of the head bolts, they also have the valve cover bolt hole into the intake port.

Also the late 1968 RAII heads are round port with standard D-port intake, and if I remember right they have the RAIV chamber also.

i have a set of RAII heads and yes....the intake ports are the earlier smaller version.... i have always been afraid to have them ported to the larger felpro #1233 (?) gasket size for fear of destrying the value......it makes running an rpm manifold a problem....

My heads on the shelf:
An original pair of 722´s don´t have any holes in intake ports but my original 614 head has a hole in one port.... My other 614 SR head is at a machine shop and I don´t know if it has any holes.

The original 614´s on my GTO I have to check if they have any holes.

Should the original ones have holes in the intake ports??

Håkan

My SR 614s don't have any valve cover bolt holes into the ports and have casting dates.

on my RA IV heads you can see where the date started but had ben machined off for the head bolt, it is not legible. On both heads, that are on my shelf the valve cover bolt holes go into the intake ports. This is also documented in Pete McCarthey's book. The sr heads that were made until 1976 had the date moved so as it would be legible after the machine work was completed.

Alot of people mnot into Pontiacs think they have round ports as the two outside ports are round. The centers also have to have round ports . The D ports look like Ds with the straight parts back to back. I cant ell you how many times I have heard. " I have a set of round ports and then see them and they are the common d ports.
