Default Tranny-rear end match?

I have a 66 Lemans with a mild 400. If I choose to install a turbo 400 tranny, what would the "ideal" rear end gear ratio be? (to allow the best of both worlds both ballzy and streetablility) And!!!!!, If i choose to install a R200/R7004 tranny what would be the ideal ratio for these o/d trannys? Thanks, Cal

What size rear tire?
th400 tranny
28" tire-3.73
26" tire 3.42
These should give a good balance for street/strip.

And just to add to 79's post, I would run similar gears with the OD trans as well. Assuming you still have the mid-60's axle, whereas I would choose a 3.42 (3.55) for the 200-4R, I would instead choose a 3.23 (3.31) for the 700-R4.

Of course, everything depends on your exact combo. But generally speaking a "mild" 400 will do well with these gears.
