Default SPARE 455 BUILD UP

HI GUYS, I HAVE A ORIGINAL 455 ENGINE IN MY TA. I HAVE A SPARE TO REPLACE THE ORIGANAL, IT IS A 73 455. IWAS THINKING EITHER AD 6X HEADS AND A 041 WITH RHODES. OR LOWER COMP AND A XE 274 WOULD THERE BE A LARGE POWER DIFFERENCE? THANKS, BLUE TA

what year trans am?if 73-74 look for the small chamber 4X heads.with them you will look stock and you don't lose that much over a 6X head.

i've ran 455+.030,small chamber 4X heads, rework performer to look stock, ram airIII exhaust manifolds, summit 2802 cam and loved it.

to help you pick a cam,the guys here will want to know trans type,if auto what converter, rear gears and what kind of driving are you planning on.

As Warbird said we need more info but the 6X heads with some porting will work very well. If the car is mostly street driven you may want to re-consider the 041 and Rhodes lifters. It might be a little much for the street but maybe not.

BTW, turn your caps lock off and STOP SHOUTING.

ok, im not shouting. the car will be 60/40 street strip. i thought staying with 8.5 8.75 comp might work well with the xe 274 cam. i also want to use the cheapest gas possible. i was hoping for 12.90s or better with the combo? thoughts. thanks blue ta

Cheap gas and hi performance seldom go together well. Maybe if you say pump gas instead, meaning the best hi-test you can get, you might do OK. Think it out and listen to the people here. Good luck.
