inertia switch install
thought now would be a good time to install an inertia switch for my electric fuel pumps. i was wondering if there is any special way to mount them. i would like to mount mine in the trunk near the fuel pump relays.
PS its a ford style inertia switch http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FORD-...sid=p1638.m118

Vic-
as per Megasquirt documentation, the switch should be mounted with the reset button pointed straight up. as you probably know, MS is opensource, so take the info for what it's worth. I have also seen an install with it mounted that way. http://www.megamanual.com/v22manual/minj.htm#supply Scott. |

And if you crack one open and look inside it becomes really obvious why that is so! Also needs to mounted on a section of the body that is very rigid too, otherwise it wont sense the impact very well at all, often the trunk hinge gets this duty,as it is pretty stiff area of the body and the switch will "sense" the impact from that area fairly well. That or they can often be mounted in the kick panel area at times too. I prefer to mount them with a rearward bias if possible though. Other than that, there is nothing much else that I can think of. |

those pics are interesting. great idea to put it in. i ordered one yesterday.
are you going to do anything about loss of oil pressure to shut off fuel? i'd like to figure a way to use my idiot switch, but i'm not sure how to get the momentary go-ahead for start up. holley makes a product to screw in the block, but i already have idiot switch and gauge sensors in the block. at least the inertia switch is one of those things that you can actually test on the bench. i have carbon monoxide detectors in my house which say that you cannot test them because carbon monoxide kind of mucks up the sensors making it a one-time use type of thing. so how do i REALLY know they work? |

no, i keep a pretty good eye on my gauges so i feel pretty confident that i would shut it down in the event of oil pressure loss.
