Default cam choice

Have settled on either a comp 282S or a crower 60310. Would appreciate any thoughts on which one would suit my application better.

68 firebird coupe
455 + .030
6x-8 mildly ported( clean up bowls and unshroud chamber ) milled for about 9.5:1
zero deck block
cast iron stock manifold
quadrajet
3.23 gears.
Turbo 400
Any thoughts appreciated, also torque convertor suggestions with this combo.

Thanks

Ultradyne 280/288 solid www.bulletcams.com, continental "Hand" converter, light pistons and forged rods if you haven't done the short block.

If you only had those to choose from, I recommend the Crower #60310. The 112 LSA will give a little better vacuum and spread your power band across the rpm range. Do a search on Motordaddy, he has this cam in a 400.

Converter, depends on your budget: High end go either ATI or Continental or Middle ground go with Redneck. You will want a good 3200-3500 rpm. JD

the 282 comp is a great cam, i cant see you having a bad choice either way. i bought a redneck converter, it works great.

Default 282s

I am running the 282S in a very similar engine as yours. It is a great street cam. You can lash it between .015 and .030. At .025 lash the idle is like a 60916, very smooth and I am pulling 18" of vacuum. At .020 you will get a nice lope and about 15" of vacuum. Cam has lots of low and mid range punch to it. Have no experience with the crower solid but the 282s is a great cam for my street only car.
