Shipping R12 freon
Has anybody ever shipped freon? I have four cans at my brothers house in PA. and need to get them to Texas.
He went to DHL they said need Haz Mat stickers, but dont know where to get them. USPS said it is on the not allowed list. He is going to UPS tomorrow. |

I am not 100% But I believe that the driver of the truck has to have a Haz-Mat endorsement. That could be the issue with usps ups and so forth.

I think you are SUPPOSED to have some kind of certification, registration or something, but if you check on eBay, people are selling R12 all over the place. I'm sure they just package it well, put it in a box and ship it. My brother works for a heating/air conditioning shop, and he told me that just to HAVE the stuff, you need a license.

It is illegal to manufacture it in the US. I have the certification to purchase it. I can still buy it at the parts store.
It is under pressure in the can. I dont want it rupturing while shipping. |

Here's the proper shipping name:
Dichlorodifluoromethane, 2.2, UN 1028 or Refrigerant gas R 12, 2.2, UN 1028 Placards won't be required unless you have more than 1,001 lbs. of the material. If your brother is going to send that to you, he could become subject to the DOT hazardous material regulations as an offeror and be liable for any violations concerning the shipment (shipping papers, labeling, specification packaging, etc.). Just a thought... Last edited by Redfed; 11-07-2007 at 10:46 PM. |
