mikeb,
yes, simple to check, but then to evaluate, which reedcams diagram do you profess to, A, B or C?

http://www.mid-lift.com/TECH/TECH-Design-G104.htm "diagram A" on page 17
same as
http://www.reedcams.com/rocker_arm_geo.htm figure A.

Too short a pushrod:
http://compcams.com/technical/Catalo...07/248-265.pdf
similar to but with excessively short pushrod
http://www.reedcams.com/rocker_arm_geo.htm figure B.
I agree with pastrychef that this is wrong

Too long a pushrod:
What Mick lust4speed and smagnotti are suggesting is shown in figure C http://www.reedcams.com/rocker_arm_geo.htm

http://www.holley.com/data/TechServi...20Geometry.pdf
This is good but focus on the width of the pattern moreso than the location. This illustration is assuming stock length valves. Long valves will move pattern towards outside of engine. Shoot for narrowest pattern (least lateral movement)

Gee, is no one building an engine right now that can personally run three patterns and image it to show us real world, one pushrod ideal length, one very short and one very long?

Here's what happened to my 389 with a complete Comp Cam Kit by not checking the push rod length. Seems that no matter how I adjusted the rockers, running; 180; 90, 90, 90, 90 or what ever, I had noise soon after adjustment. Roller tip was riding on the retainer instead of the valve tip. Eventually it put so much lateral stress on the guides that it wore thru several.

Kyflier, why the name if you are in Cincinnati? What side of the border are you on?

This information/method is generally used by most people that I know of to check things out. Considering that a lot of people don't bother to check anything it is probably good enough for the unwashed masses, but maybe not for greg anderson.

These guys can make you anything you want. If you happen to need a 9.130 or a 9.300 summit has those in stock (comp).

In particular, page 10 of this 18-page pdf. You may get lucky with your needed length in one or more of the other series of pushrods listed, page 10 is not the ONLY place to look. For instance, page 9 might work for you, also.

Default Pushrods . . .

Thanks Schurkey, I had the info on the Comp Cams HiTechs, just thought there might be a more economical source. Summit advertises them at about $15 each in the .9200" range. I know, still cheaper than converting to adjustable rockers . . .

I bought a set of custom length pushrods many years ao. I believe the company that made them was 'Diamond'. I don't know if my memory is correct of if they still exist. You could try an internet search.
