Do you neeed to put some grease on the splines before you slide the trans into place? Do you put some on the throw out bearing or shaft? Thanks

I apply an anti-seize lubricant to the splines and a good, quality EP grease to the throwout bearig collar (fill the groove inside) and the area on the front bearing retainer where it rides...Robert

I wouldn't put anything on the splines or throwout bearing. If it gets on the clutch, you'll ruin it.

I agree - the throw out bearing should be adequately greased from the manufacturer out of the box.

My recent install of my Ram Long Style PP and disc into my '63 LeMans showed a little grease coming from the throw out bearing after I broke the trans in.

If the splines on the clutch disc and input shaft are completely dry they stand a chance of seizing together. I have seen this a few times and it makes for a challenging time if the transmission or engine ever have to come out.

I put a little on the tip where it rides in the pilot bushing/bearing, the pivot ball and where the throwout bearing rides on the bearing retainer.
