Default Which Water Pump Pulley?

I have a 68 400 that was just rebuilt. It has a 3 groove crank pulley since it originally had A/c. A 69 timing cover was used and I installed a Milidon aluminum water pump. Now my original, 2 groove water pump pulley does not work.(obviously ) Can anyone tell me what pulley I need to use to get the belts to line up?

Thanks

9796060 is the standard 8" pulley (non-A/C cars) - will work fine, is pretty easy to find.

9796062 is for A/C cars - it is 7 3/16 inches and spins the water pump impeller faster than the 8" and cools better (I have one on my 69 gto and it clearly cools better than the 8).

The 9796061 is 6 1/2" and also for A/C cars - I am not 100% sure of the application - as above poster said, will surely work as well and I guess spin the water pump impeller even faster.

I had same problem, look for a chebby pulley, can't remember if it was BBC or SBC, I heard Pep Boys has them, like $15. I have a friend who had a box of old ones, picked it out, painted, good to go........

actually, i think if he tried to use 9796060 with AC type crank pulley, it might not work. 8" pulley on both WP & crank would touch each other? a large 8" AC crank pulley needs a bit smaller diameter WP pulley. i found this out first hand couple days ago. i think i'm accumulating enough information to start a summary thread on pulley data. lots of threads out there with particular applications, but didn't find any that summarizes different applications.

as far as difference between 9796061 & 9796062 (i'm going to use one of the 2, not sure which yet), i found the following info, but i'm wondering... what is "var. pitch fan"?

application:
69 - F/8 H.T., A.C. 9796061 Pulley- 2 grv, 6.25" dia.
(exc. Var. Pitch Fan)

69 - all V/8 A.C. 9796062 Pulley- 2 grv, 7.18" dia.
(with Var. Pitch Fan)

I ended up going with a complete pulley set from Ram Air Restoration. They had a booth at Carlisle and the black, 1969 pulley set was $249. That was $50 off their web price. The guy was very helpful and he actually swapped out the gold anodized alternator pulley for a black one and the 8" water pump pulley for the 6" pulley. I installed them and everything lines up perfectly plus they look really nice.

that's great. i've toyed around with the idea of just getting a set of those too. sure would have saved some research time.

curiously though, was your 11 bolt milodon pump the regular length shaft, or the short-shafted early '69 pump? what alternator/PS brackets did you use?

Yeah, it is a long shaft pump. It's actually made by GMP. The pulley set came with crank, water pump, alternator and power steering pulleys. It started off as a complete, standard 1969 set but I changed the water pump pulley size.

Where is the best place to milodon pump from? or a pump with a cast impeller? I ordered a pump from NAPA, but they only had reman and it does not have he cast impellers. Should I use it?

I ordered my Milodon pump from Jegs. You can also get the GMP pump from SD Performance for a few dollars cheaper. I only ordered from Jegs because Marcel didn't have any pumps in stock.
