Default Eos discontinued

As of yesterday,6-27-07, eos is no longer available thru gm.What ever the dealerships have in stock is it.Dealerships can no longer order it.

According to GM Parts Direct, it shows 1052367 as being discontinued. It does, however, have an asterisk after the PN. The bottom of the page reads:

"* This part has been replaced by a new part number. The new part number will be used if you add this part to your cart."

It doesn't yet show the new PN though.

I don't doubt that 1052367 has been discontinued!

GM Parts Direct shows the same, and (even though it could be incorrect) it shows that another PN has superseded the now-old 1052367 PN. Just pointing out that it may not be gone forever.

Try using 992869. That's the Canadian part number for AC/DC EOS.

Looks like we'll all just have to keep a set of old stock springs lying around for break in. My buddy just built a 455 with E-heads and a Lunati flat tappet solid cam, we took out the inner springs and he drove it around for two days (about 100 miles) then put the inners back in, so far so good... I think the cam manufacturers will step up and make something available for the product they produce for break in periods otherwise they will lose millions $$$. IMO I don't think the flat tappet cam will go anywhere too fast, it'll maybe get phased out eventually but no time soon, too many racing sanctions still requiring their use. Thanks D. Miles

I bought out my dealer and ordered another case of 12 on Tuesday.

I have heard that the supplemental PN has no where near as much Zinc, which was the whole point.

I spoke with the GM Parts assistance center this morning. 992869 is still a active part number and there is no indication that it will be discontinued.

1052367 has been disc. Will cancel upon order.
No replacement # pending yet.

992869 is not an active part #...at least not here.

I spent some time yesterday looking at oils on the shelf at a local store. The Resolute brand of 10W-30 and 30W, sold by Fleet Farm, is rated SL, which does contain zinc. Resolute is manufactured by US Oil in Wisconsin. Most name brands were rated SM, including Mobil I, and they do not contain zinc.

According to John Sawruck, a former Pontiac engineer and active Pontiac hobbyist, SL rated oils should be OK for our old flat-tappet Pontiacs without supplements.

I stopped using EOS a long time ago. I have been using this for years now to break in cams AND add to oil! It has one of the highest Zinc contents available!! And ALL of there oil has MPZ (this additive) in it!! I am telling you all this is the way to go.

Be Cool,

I went to my local chebby dealer today to try to buy some.... No stock!! The parts guy said local engine and prototype shops have bought him out, he was selling 3-4 cases at a time. One of the shop's pressed him on the matter and he contacted GM and he was told the product is on backorder until sometime in August, it is being reformulated to get rid of a harmful chemical! Gee I wonder what that is I went to autozone and bought some STP. Probably just a matter of time before the zink is out of that.

It's a good thing I had sense to buy 20 gallons of Rotella 15w-40 and 50 bottles of EOS last year when I started hearing alot of talk about cam failures. With 3 old Pontiacs it should keep me going for a while.

I confirmed the discontinuance of EOS with the local Chevy parts guy as well, and bought the last ten bottles they had. A POSITIVE SIDE NOTE!! I found old stock of Rotella 15W-40 at a Sams club. Seem like they didn't rotate their stock and if you dig, maybe you too can find the old cases. The old cases don't have as much yellow on the outside and the only thing that is yellow is the "Shell" emblem itself. Good hunting - Bill -

My oil distributor guy said that Rotella 15w-40 will no longer have zinc in it.

GM also has a product called "camshaft and lifter prelube". comes in a small bottle...about 3 oz..part # is 992704. Has a high zinc content. We always keep it on the shelf and the price is cheaper than EOS.
