Rally II center cap attachment options
Hey, need some ideas. I got some new center caps for 15X7 Rally II's from our sponsor. But the attachment method (locking) interferes with dust cap on front disk brakes ('69 full size). Diagram below of attaching method, which uses a round plate to attach behind wheel center.
Can't push dust cap in far enough to get clearance. Are there some type of clips that can be used to attach to the three screws toward the outisde of the ring? I could rig somethign up using oversized washers on those screws that would "catch" behind the wheel -- but that probably would not be ideal. PY suggested the much more expensive GM caps that have some sort of clip dealio. But I already have these ones in hand. any ideas to make 'em work?

Sorry I don't have an answer for you, ran into the same thing on my 67 GP. For the fronts I just used the other style caps that push onto the wheel and are retained with the bent clips.

Thanks. Yeah, I might just have to pony up for the more expensive ones. I just picked up some screen window clips from the hardware store, like the ones pictured below. I am going to try using them by attaching to the three machine screws.

Yeh, I wasted my money on those locks to for my wheels. Yeh, I bought the expensive GM centers also. I didn't matter, the lock still didn't work. Threw the junk in my tool box and forgot about it. Took my chances with the caps and the clips the have on the back of them.

buy different dust caps or dent yours in in the middle for clearance.

that's not an effective option when the spindle's close enough to the cap to interfere wehn you dink them. i've got the 70's model caps on mine until i work an alternative out. mike

Yeah, if I dink them (tried it) and mount them, the cap retaining bolt crushes the cap against the spindle. That tolerance is a bit too tight!

For anyone who cares, this is what I did. Clearly, it is not a solution for everyone. But I thought I'd post since others appear to have run into the sam situation with these caps.
I couldn't justify spending another $140 for two of the GM style center caps after just paying 100 for four of the others. Heck, all four of the Rally II wheels didn't cost $140. I took a round file to the center of the wheels and notched out room so I could use the three machine screws that hold the cap together to attach it to the wheel. Had to use slightly longer machine screws, of course. Here are some pics that describe it better than I.

funny how different spindle lengths there must be as my three A body, one G body and three B body pontiacs all clear the locking caps with the dust covers and none of the spindles extend into the cap only about 1/2 inch.

Were any of your b-bodies disk brakes circa 69-70?
