Default Window Cranks

Hi,

Any tips for installing new window cranks? Do they just pry off? Just asking as I tend to force and break things

Ummm, there should be a little wire clip that locks it onto the shaft. You hafta snap it off, then the handle will slide off. Its hard to see sometimes.

Best I can remember--There is a tool to use to push the clip out. I'll bet Performance Years sells it. You have to look behind the widow crank, get it in a position where you can see where to push the clip and use the tool to push the clip out. The handle will pull off easily then--that's how I remember it. You do not need to use any force--just a little push on the clip and the crank slides right off. Take your time the first time.

The tool can be found at most auto parts stores.

When you put the new one on, put the clip on the handle first then line the crank up where you want it and use a little wd40 then just push the handle on the clip will stay on the crank, and lock it into place

Some guys will just take a rag and slip it behind the handle and pop the clip off.

If you don't have the clip tool,(highly recommeded to save your door panels), get a cotter pin and bend a 1/4" tab in the end. Slip it between the crank and door panel, catch the c-clip, slight tug and it 's out!. The clip is supposed to be installed with the ends at the the crank end of the handle.

BTW I have bought repro window cranks that the internal spline section wasn't correct and wouldn't engage the regulator without pushing in the handle. A great way to kid pr0of the windows!!

Good luck
