How much more parasitic losses are there?
I'm going to a 2004r from a th350. The 350 is supposed to use about 20hp less than the th400 so I'm told and have read. I was also told that the 2004r uses about 10hp more than the th400 because of parasitic drag. Is this true? Am I about to loose 30+hp by going to the 2004r? I thought they were pretty efficient transmissions. I've measured the clutch pack area of the 350 and 200. The 200 is about 3 1/2" longer. More clutches for the 4th gear I'm assuming.

I was under the impression that the 200 has less rotating mass than the th350 and the 200r4 would consume less than a 350.

The numbers I've seen quoted are 25-30 hp losses for the 200. The ratios are better, also, and can allow better acceleration with a higher (lower numeric) ratio rear. The trans rotating mass is less, also, meaning lower inertia to resist acceleration. They just have to be built right and adjusted right to last with Pontiac torque.
