Default vacuum

I hooked a gauge to manifold vacuum at the carb..............reading 14" Hg at idle.
Does this sound ok? Runs fine.

thats a little low if your car doesnt have a large cam but still ok. Try adjusting timing and Air/Fuel mixture this might help to raise vacuume.

This motor was rebuilt back in the '80's, and the guy apparently replaced the 068 cam with a bit hotter. Don't know why, the 068 had pretty long duration and good lift itself.

What number should I be looking for optimum on this 455HO?

Thanks.
