wow! they finally showed a T/A auction on tv. i felt they did a decent job with the presentation, especially the part when mike joy used the term "ICONIC" to describe the car.....at $46k,it looks to be a well bought car.

They were quick to mention that it was the first second gen on BJ's Speed show. I was wondering if I had missed one but guess not.

They spent 3x as long on the Star Trek camaro trying to play it up prior. I think that caused the 70' to pay for the loss of air time.

VERY good to see though..FINALLY

You know why the spent the extra time on the Star Trek Camaro. If the TA had all the 'eye candy' along with it, they would have spent extra time on it too.

I thought they rushed it through. They did not do this car justice. These guys are so uninformed about Pontiacs.

Keep in mind that is $46,000 plus a 10% buyers premium so that 1970 Trans Am sold for $50,600.

I watched the first night on Thursday and they opened up the show on TV with a 1979 Trans Am 10th Anniversary. That TA sold for $28050 and was a 403 Engine automatic car with 23,000 miles. The speed TV announcers seemed to like the car but then the guy went into a rant about the hurst t-tops on the car (wrong).

Prior to the 1979 TA but not shown on TV was a 1981 Nascar Trans Am which sold for $21,450.

Thats a lot of money for a automatic. If I was the seller I would be out at the bar tonight buying drinks. Even if it was a nice frame of car it would not have brought that much oney on ebay. I thought about taking my 72 4 speed T/A to Mecum in a few months but 750 to enter and 6% is a lot of money. After seeing this car do strong I may just try it. Last ear they had a blue 70 there that I would not have paid over 30k for and it went for 43 so go figure.

So the seller only took home $41K and change, after paying the sellers commission, right?

Which is interesting, because this car was on eBay a year ago. Bids went up to $47K, but reserve was not met.

Ouch....

Personally I thought the car was below what I would think these cars are worth. One of our posters stated he thought that was high for an automatic car?? I disagree. I think these cars should be in the 70's if not the 80's. and personally i think the manual is only worth maybe 10% on these cars. the auto ran damn near as good as any manual did. pontiac motors provide low end torque that seems to work quite well with automatics unlike your higher reving chevys where the stick actually helps.. just my thoughts.......................

I saw that 79 being shown & winced at the Hurst T-top comment, this is supposed to be a show for car enthusiasts. At least they could research the car a bit before making comments like that.

Pontiacs never do well at BJ, and Florida's event is even worse.
I didnt even go this year, tired of seening rows & rows of vettes.
Even the 34 custom turbo sold like a dead fish. BJ sucks

I would be more than happy to see these cars in the 70 to 80g range but that is not the case. I watched the auction on Tivo today and it looked like a nice car. Had the correct fenders and air cleaner. I have two auto cars that I want to sell and if I can get anywhere near that amount I will be happier than a pig in sh t. BTW a four speed should bring 20% more than a auto.

I think in part what holds these cars back is that few people have experienced driving one. I grew up on vettes and mopars but was blown away the first time I drove a 71 TA. To me, nothing from that time period had the complete package like the early 2nd gen TA's and Formula's.

Thumbs up

i am happy to see this car sell for what it did, i also think the 4 speed is worth 20% more, i also believe the market on these cars has bean held back because pontiac used this body style for such a long time, there is still alot of uninformed people when it comes to early trans ams, i cant tell you how many times i drove my 69 ta to the burger shop and have someone say (nice camaro) they all think a trans am was in smokey and the bandit. i have owned 4 early trans ams many years, its nice to see them being more appreciated. 50k is a bunch of money for most people...
