Thanks for the info Canamman! I thought I saw a decoded data plate that had on it the rear end ratio.....? I wonder what mine is.

The code on the rear end is stamped on the passengers side axle tube, usually facing the front of the car. You may not be able to read them due to 34 years of rust.

Your car probably has a 3.08 open gear (open meaning no posi-traction). That's what mine had in it.

Well, it's true. These 73-77 A-bodies aren't everyone's cup of tea, but I happen to like them.

10,000 posts...you're a madman. That should be your new title. Brian Baker, 'Madman'. Lol.
Anyone have anything to say about getting air shocks to pump up the rear end? It's just for looks, and I know all about tire hop and the poor handling that it will create. Probably Gabriel Hijackers. They're about 75-80 for a pair. I also found out my Luxury LeMans came with Rally wheels from the factory, but I happen to have a set of 4 Pontiac wheel covers. I wonder if anyone needs some wire wheel covers to complete their car. =) I'm having my doubts about this project though...I don't know if I have enough money to fix it up nice before it wears out or falls apart. It's also my only car until spring when all this snow melts and I can once again break out my ricer. Vrroom vrooom.

You can buy new HD rear coil springs for about the same money as the crappy air shocks, and they are a breeze to install.

Can I put those on the front too? I'd like to give the car a clean, aggresive look. I don't like how it hangs over the wheels right now. It's too low.

The fronts are not nearly as easy to install as the rear ones. You jack the car up by the frame, support the lower control arm with another floor jack, unbolt the shock, compress the spring with quality compressors, unbolt the upper ball joint, carefully separate the balljoint from the spindle, and carefully release the lower control arm. You will find unless you have an ultra low mile car that the upper and lower ball joint will be sloppy and need to be replaced.
To replace the rear springs, you jack the car up by the frame, place another floor jack under center of rear axle, unbolt both lower shock bolts, then let rear swing down and remove and replace both springs.

Fronts are more difficult to change; but once the new ones are in, the car will sit higher.

I changed my oil today. I used Valvoline 10w-40 as prescribed by a local salesman, and I put a quart of Lucas HD oil stabilizer in with it. Fram oil and air filters. I'm waiting for some more money so I can update/upgrade my ignition, then it should run sweet. THEN, after all that is taken care of, I can finally get some headers and figure out what I want to do for mufflers and tail pipe. What is a "lake pipe". Is it just a fancy term for a side pipe? And who here knows the laws for distance between the tail pipe and the doors....
Oh, and while I was changing my oil, I noticed how incredibly difficult it's going to be to get the exhaust manifold off...omg....I'm probably going to take it to a garage, where they have all the proper tools.

Tone,
I would avoid Fram filters. They are the worst on the market. Next time, use either an AC or WIX.
