Default Holley 4160 or 3100?

My Carter AFB 750 went under on me fouling plugs, and under hard acceleration missing and just dumping fuel out the exhaust.I tried a friends old Holley 3100 750CFM and the car runs fine. Instaed of fighting the Carter, I want to go ahead and buy a new Holley. On a 428 mildly modified which is the better carb the 3100 or the 4160? They both cost about the same$250-$280...Thanks for your advice!

Fix the Carter!
Probably only needs the float level adjusted or else new needles & seats.

If the "3100" you tried is a 3310, it is likely a 4160 model holley. The 3310 come in both 4150 (rear metering block) and 4160 (rear metering plate) configurations. Both are ~ 750cfm vacuum secondary carbs but a 3310 with a rear metering block is better for a performance application. If you are dead set on replacing the Carter, the 3310 works and you like it, why would you try something else? You may want to try getting in touch with a member of this forum, Shaker455. He does great carb work and may be able to hook you up with something tuned to your setup.
