factory tint.....in the glass or a film layer?
what's the story on the factory tint? can it be removed or does the entire glass need to be changed? it looks greenish blue on these cars.

It's in the glass. The entire glass would need to be changed.

Thanks. Seems like most of the western cars got tinted glass. All my cars have it. Some cars look good with, some look good without.
Replacing all the glass is a big job. |

A/C cars got tinted glass standard. Non-A/C cars were optional or just a tinted windsheild. My A/C 1988 S-10 had tinted glass, my 1989 non-A/C S-15 had standard glass, even the windshield.

Don't know anything about late '80's S-10's or S-15's.
But for '64 & '65 Pontiac A bodies, Tinted Glass was completely independent of the A/C option. Standard (no option) build was clear glass. For Tinted Glass, there were two independent, available options. You could order Sales Code 531, UPC A01 to get Tinted Glass, All Windows. Or you could order Sales Code 532, UPC A02 to get Tinted Glass, Windshield Only. You could order Sales Code 581, UPC C60 to get Custom A/C. This option could be ordered without Tinted Glass or in combination with either of the Tinted Glass options. There was no linkage. In this era of extra dark tinted glass, might look strange. But if you grew up with the tinted windows of the '60's, looks perfectly normal. |

You have shed some new light John.
My 1973 LeMans w/o A/C just had a tinted windsheild, where my 1973 with A/C had all tinted glass. My 1974 SD TA had tinted glass but no A/C. I prefer the bluishgreen tint over clear glass. |

is the tinted glass option the same as soft ray? on my 65, it looks brownish. on my 64, it looks greenish blue and a little darker.

They all start off blueish green but over time and extended exposure to the sun turns them brown
