I kind of asked this before I don't think I have a definitive answer. I want to replace the 403 in my '79 TA. I think the way to go is find a early 70's Pontiac 455 to rebuild. I just wan't to make sure this is the best option before I sink the money into finding an engine to rebuild over the winter. Any sugestions would be great.

I think you already know what you want. Go for the Poncho 455.

Good luck, I've been looking for 10 years for a good, cheap, Poncho 455 and still haven't found an affordable one. At this point I'd take a 350.

What should I be looking to pay? Or what is considered affordable?

A 455 could be a better choice if you are planning on some serious drag racing action, but for the street, you could be happier with a strong 400.
Typically,a 400 will rev a bit quicker & they are generally a bit more comfortable at higher RPM. |
