The 0470756 is the Engine Unit Number (EUN), not the VIN. The partial VIN on your engine should be located beside the timing cover on the passenger side of the engine, just below the radiator hose outlet. You'll be able to see it if you look at it from under the car.

Actually, you MAY be able to see it- but sometimes the VIN stamp is even difficult to see with the engine OUT of the car.
I have a numbers-matching Fremont-built 1970 455 car, that I looked everywhere for the VIN stamp. Oh- I KNEW where it was supposed to be, but there was nothing there. After I had the engine out and on a stand, with all the accessories and hoses stripped from the engine, I located the VIN stamp- up much higher than all sources say. Turns out, this location was typical for Fremont cars... |

Let's see, looking at an old post, someone stated your car is a May built unit, is this correct? The motor is an April assembled unit (my opinion). Are you questioning the block as being the original one?

Here is a thread about this some time ago. Mine is wierd but who knows what they were smoking at the Freemont plant. They were 'free' with location of all 3. Pic of mine is there in the thread.

Well, what are you planning to do with the car? Go racing a bunch? Might be better to build another. Only some infrequent trips to the strip, but a decent amount of shows/cruising? Build the original, but build it RIGHT. Spend the extra money to beef up the one part that is historically weak on a Pontiac- the connecting rods. With a good set of Crower's, and your clearances right, you won't blow it up.

What TJH said. Especially since it looks with a WS code you have a stick. That is what I am doing. Don't need a stock rod disconnecting in the middle and punching an extra hole or more in that numbers matching block. I cringe at what I did with the engine when stock when I missed a shift and floated the valves. No idea what the rpm's were. Phew!! It is still in one piece.
