Cool Sound right to you guys?

I finally went to the drag strip Sunday, to test out my ride. It's an '87 Grand Prix. I've got a '71 balanced .030 over 455 HO in it, yes 197 heads un molested, xe274 comp cam, installed straight up with 1.5 rockers, 200r4 tranny 2200 stall,3.42 8.5 posi rear, 69 intake with heat passage cut off, a 800 cfm Cliff Q-jett, all sitting in a stock body with a/c,open cut outs. Stock HEI timing set at 11, 30 all in by 3000. 7al msd box.
I went to local 1/8 drag strip and this is what she did.
8.44 1.95/60ft 83.92 mph
8.50 1.91/60ft 82.94 mph
8.48 1.89/60ft 81.76 mph
8.47 1.91/60ft 82.77 mph
I can't fig out what happened on the this one?
8.28 1.89/60ft 84.16 mph
Guys can she go faster? Are 7's poss with this combo? The reason I ask, well the heads are 111cc chamber and I don't think that compression ratio compliments the cam shaft that well. Any reccomendations?

7s should be doable. I ran a 8.22 at 84.5MPH in a 3600lb LeMans with a 9.3:1 400, XE274, 3.23 gears and street tires. I'm gonna get that car in the 7s on motor. You should be a half second faster than me.

Yes its Doable...My car runs 8.066@85.9 Mph with the same Camshaft as you have and a T2 and 800 Holley By Tom V. with 3.23's out back and weighing in right at 4k...Stock rods Trw slugs Yada yada...Nothing special....60' is a 1.74 on ET street RAdials.
Compression is around 8.7-1 with my 104 CC chamber heads. And I ran those times with the car misfiring a bit at the top of 2nd and 3rd.
You can get it in the 7's with some tuning.

How much tuning have you done?

84mph in the 1/8 isn't exactly slow, a smaller cam would most likely slow you down. You actually probably have the airflow to go up in cam size slightly. I highly doubt that 30 degrees timing is optimal for that combination, I'd expect 2-4 degrees more. What kind of tires are you running? If those are street tires, you're not going to do much better on your 60' so you'll have to go for more on the top end, not vice versa...

Get some traction and add in more timing and you would be there.

Sorry for not letting you guys know the tire size. I ran 28x9x15 Hoosiers with 13lbs of pressure. Belive me I was getting plenty of traction.

id try different timing advances...bet youd get better with 13-14 degrees of advance...

with that compression ratio, i'd try it with 38 - 40 total

34 would be minimum.

Found a little problem with my Q-jet. This was after I went to the Drag stip, which I had noticed something didn't seem quite right, on Sunday. Turns out a vaccum tube on the rear base plate was missing the cap I had placed over it. I wonder if this slowed me down any because it was running rich the other night before I discovered it. Shifting around 5200 rpm, she did turn 6000 with me before I realized it.

advance teh cam 4 degrees instead of straight up.
add 7-9 degrees more total advance - try for all of it added to initial timing if it will still start.
trim mechanical advance if you need to; get as much in as quickly as you can.

a vacuum leak will make you run leaner, not richer, as you pull unmetered air and reduce velocity through teh boosters.

7's should be fairly easy. You need more converter with more stall? If your getting plenty of traction your 60's should be a lot better. Definately increase the timing.
